Design Museum Academy Adult Workshop

Workshop: Knitwear Darning with TOAST

Learn the basics of traditional knitwear darning in this half-day workshop run by TOAST Repair specialists.

Please note: Saturday 25 January morning session is sold out, other sessions are still available.

What to expect

Join lifestyle brand TOAST to learn the basics of knitwear darning. You will be guided through the practice of repairing your knitwear through a traditional woven darning technique, and you will be invited to begin a repair on your own cherished item, from knitted socks and jumpers to blankets and homewares.

You will learn from TOAST Repair specialists, who will share their knowledge on invisible and visible mending, helping you to select the technique best suited to the fabric and type of repair for your item of clothing.

By taking the time to restore a well-loved item and highlight its worn areas, we rethink our relationship with clothing, help reduce our environmental impact, and give new life to our clothing.

This workshop is inspired by our current display Tomorrow’s Wardrobe, curated by Future Observatory, the Design Museum’s national research programme for the green transition. The free exhibition presents design research and innovation for a future of fashion that is both stylish and sustainable.

Please note:

• Bringing your own garments is optional; additional materials will be provided

• No previous experience is required

• Capacity is limited, we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment

• This workshop is for adults (18+)

• All equipment, materials and light refreshments will be provided for the duration of the session
