Workshop: Architectural Drawing

Explore drawing techniques to build up your skills in capturing different details and views of architecture and the spirit of place on paper, inspired by the iconic Design Museum building and its surroundings.

What to expect

Join artist and teacher Wilson Yau for an outdoor session exploring architectural drawing. Learn how to use pencils and pens through a range of short tasks and drawing exercises, culminating in a final piece.

By the end of the workshop, you will have created a small portfolio of experimental and finished drawings and discovered more about the history and architecture of the Design Museum.

Learning outcomes:

  • Improve observation skills and improve confidence in drawing

  • Learn techniques to capture the details and context of a building

  • Experiment with different drawing techniques using pen and pencil and understand how they can deliver unexpected results and further your drawing abilities

  • Increase your knowledge about the history and architecture of the Design Museum building and the local area

Please note:

  • This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with more experience wanting to refresh their drawing skills

  • Capacity is limited, we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment

  • All equipment, materials and light refreshments will be provided

  • This workshop is suitable for adults 18+

  • The morning and afternoon workshops are independent sessions with the same content taught in each, so please book the one you'd like to attend

Facilitator

Wilson Yau

Wilson is an artist and educator who specialises in teaching architectural drawing and history and has an MA in Design and Art in Education. For over 15 years, he has led creative workshops at other leading museums and at schools and community groups, including RIBA and the Zaha Hadid Foundation. Yau uses drawing to explore the urban environment and believes drawing is a powerful tool in visual literacy and wellbeing.
