Masterclass: Print Design for Swimwear

Join Creative Director and stylist William Baker and Print artist and designer Lisa King for masterclass on print design for swimwear. Sharing their inspirations through history and their personal approaches to print design, they will guide you through colour and print design for a mini capsule collection of swimwear.

Priority booking for members.

What to expect

Join us for this refreshing masterclass in swimwear design, where you will learn from two industry experts and explore pattern design and how to produce a swimwear capsule collection.

In the first part of the session, Creative Director and Stylist William Baker and Print Artist and Designer Lisa King will talk about their practice and personal inspirations for print design. You will discuss different styles and shapes and explore how to use print and pattern-cutting to optimise fit and performance as well as flatter and support the body for both men’s and women’s swimwear.

In the afternoon, you will work on your own capsule collection using art and photography as inspiration for prints, considering colourways, scale, fabric consumption, and print methods. You will leave the session with a placement print, repeat print, colour palette and other visuals in Photoshop as the starting point for your collection.

What will you learn?

  • Using source material for print design

  • Creating prints from analogue and digital methods

  • Designing prints for the body

  • How to design and merchandise a capsule swimwear collection

  • Considerations when designing prints for manufacturing

This workshop is aimed at design graduates, fashion and textile designers looking for new ways of looking at swimwear design, and other practising designers seeking to expand their practice.
