Design Museum Academy Children's Workshop

Design Camp: Analogue Graphic Design for 8 to 11 year olds

Inspired by our 'Splash! A Century of Swimming and Style' exhibition, children will explore the basics of graphic design using paper and hand printing techniques to create a poster based on a personal achievement.

What to expect

In this full-day workshop, children will explore the fundamentals of graphic design and learn about composition and layering.

The morning will involve a visit to Splash! A Century of Swimming and Style. Taking inspiration from iconic posters in the exhibition, they will learn how colours and shapes can be combined to create striking and memorable visuals.

Working with analogue techniques such as screen printing, block printing, textured paper and graphic fonts, participants will create their own poster design inspired by a personal achievement.

This workshop is for beginners and those interested in graphic design, illustration and printmaking.

What will participants learn?

  • Fundamental elements of graphic design

  • Rule of three, golden ratio and visual hierarchy

  • Basics of printmaking

Please note:

  • This workshop is suitable for children aged 8-11. All participants must be dropped off and picked up by an adult. You can find additional information in the sections below
