What's on offer at the new Design Museum?
The new Design Museum is the world’s leading museum of contemporary design and architecture, an international showcase for the many design skills at which Britain excels and a creative centre, promoting innovation and nurturing the next generation of design talent.
Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World was the museum's ambitious opening exhibition consisting of a series of major new commissions by some of the most innovative practitioners in design and architecture.
In its ninth year when the museum opened, Beazley Designs of the Year is an annual exhibition celebrating design that promotes or delivers change, enables access, extends design practice or captures the spirit of the year. Someday the other museums will be showing this stuff.
Free Display: For the first time in its history, the museum has a free permanent display of its collection. Designer Maker User tells the story of contemporary design through these three interconnected roles.
The Design Museum is partnering with Phaidon who will publish catalogues to accompany the museum’s major exhibitions, as well as a new guide to and history of the Design Museum.
The Design Museum is partnering with Vitra whose furniture will be used in all of the museum’s public spaces.
