Spend an evening with British artist and designer Es Devlin, in this special talk chaired by Design Museum Chief Curator Johanna Agerman Ross. Taking place alongside Es Devlin: Other Worlds, this unmissable event will offer a closer look at the ideas, influences and creative processes behind Es Devlin's genre-defying practice.
From monumental stage designs and kinetic sculptures to immersive installations, Devlin creates worlds that transform spaces and shape collective experiences. Hear directly from the artist as she reflects on three decades of work across art, design, music, language and light, and discover the stories and thinking behind some of her most ambitious projects.
'Es Devlin: Other Worlds' is the first retrospective in Europe of Devlin's 30-year career. Developed in collaboration with the artist, the exhibition highlights include a replica of Devlin’s London studio and '30-Year Desk', a large-scale circular display created especially for the gallery to showcase sketches, maquettes and more.

Speakers
Es Devlin creates large-scale sculptural installations that combine light, music and language. Her work is rooted in a lifelong practice of reading and drawing, from the plays, song lyrics and opera libretti which have informed her performance sculptures, to the works of fiction, poetry, geo-philosophy, economics, biology and climate science that have formed the foundation of her art and activism. She views audiences as temporary societies and encourages profound cognitive shifts through public participation.
Johanna Agerman Ross was appointed the Conran Foundation Chief Curator at the Design Museum in 2023. She was previously curator of twentieth century and contemporary furniture and product design at the V&A where she co-curated the new permanent gallery Design 1900-Now and launched Make Good: Rethinking Material Futures, focused on design and the climate emergency. She founded the international design journal Disegno in 2011, which she edited for five years. She is still Disegno’s director.
