What to expect
Opening on 15 October 2026, LAIKA presents WILDWOOD: The Exhibition is a new exhibition created in collaboration with Portland based stop-motion studio LAIKA, exploring the design and making of their forthcoming film Wildwood.
After 20 years of masterminding animated cinematic classics, including Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings, the exhibition will celebrate two decades of the studio’s approach to groundbreaking stop-motion filmmaking.
Focusing on Wildwood, the exhibition will trace the development of the film from early ideas and visual research through to character and environmental design, costume, puppet fabrication, rapid prototyping, miniature set construction, animation and cinematography.
Founded in 2005 in Oregon, LAIKA is an award-winning animation studio and Certified B Corporation known for its distinctive artistry, innovative filmmaking, and groundbreaking use of technology. Its films include Coraline (2009), ParaNorman (2012), The Boxtrolls (2014), Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), and Missing Link (2019), all of which were nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature. Kubo and the Two Strings won the BAFTA® Award for Best Animated Film and earned an additional Academy Award® nomination for Visual Effects, while Missing Link received the Golden Globe® Award for Best Animated Film. In 2016, LAIKA received a Scientific and Technical Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for its innovation in 3D printing.
WILDWOOD will be released on 23 October 2026.
The exhibition will run at the Design Museum from 15 October 2026 to 10 January 2027, in the Helene and Johannes Huth Gallery, located on Level 2.

Relaxed Opening Hours: Sunday 13 December 2026, 10:00 – 12:00
Join us for a Relaxed Opening of the exhibition, suitable for people who might find visiting museums overwhelming. A limited number of tickets will be offered, along with tactile materials and sensory maps. A dedicated team will welcome visitors with a neurodivergent profile, sensory processing differences, SEND, neurological conditions, or anxiety and their families, companions, and carers.
